Quantification of Argyrophilic Nucleolar Organizer Regions in Estrogen Receptor Positive and Estrogen Receptor Negative Ductal Breast Carcinomas

چکیده
Argyrophilic nucleolar organizer regions (AgNORs) analysis of 20 estrogen receptor positive (ER+) and 16 estrogen receptor negative (ER-) invasive ductal breast carcinomas was performed. The quantification of AgNORs was determined by using morphometrical method in three ways: 1) mean number of AgNORs per nucleus counted on a 100 random nuclei, 2) mean number of AgNORs per nucleus counted on 200-300 nuclei in fields chosen by "the chess fields" method, and 3) mean number of AgNORs on the nuclear surface unit. A significant difference in mean number of AgNORs per nucleus and on unit of the nuclear surface between estrogen receptor positive (ER+) and estrogen receptor negative (ER-) invasive ductal breast carcinomas was observed (p<0.001). The mean number of AgNORs was higher in ER– than in ER+ invasive ductal breast carcinomas. Despite interobserver variability in counting AgNORs, comparison was completed as well as the evaluation of validity of three stated ways of quantification of nucleolar organizers. Our results suggest more rapid proliferative activity in ERthan in ER+ breast cancers.

Evaluation Of The Androgen Receptor Status In Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Of Breast
Background and Objective: Determination of hormone receptor status in the management of breast cancer is well-established. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of androgen receptor (AR) expression in invasive ductal carcinoma of breast. Materials and Methods: For this purpose, 55 cases of invasive ductal breast carcinoma were examined using a monoclonal antibody against AR on...
متن کاملAndrogen Receptor Analysis in Relation to Estrogen and Progesterone Receptors as well as Histological Grade for Ductal Carcinoma In Situ of the Breast
Background and Objective: Since the advent of mammography screening, ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) of the breast has been diagnosed increasingly. In contrast to the situation in invasive breast carcinoma, there are only a few reports on androgen receptor (AR) status in DCIS and few reports on estrogen ...
متن کاملComparison of Estrogen Receptor and Progesterone Receptor in Ductal Carcinoma and Lobular Carcinoma With Regard to Age Prevalence
Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common women’s cancers, and the number of cases is increasing worldwide. Objective: The current study compared invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) and invasive ductal carcinoma with regard to the prevalence of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and age prevalence. Methods: T...

ABSTRACT Background: The aims of this study were to assay the activity of adenosine deaminase (ADA) in estrogen receptor positive (MCF-7) and negative (MDA-MB468) breast cancer cell lines. Methods: MDA-MB468 and MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines were cultured in complete medium, striped serum with and without 0.0 1~-LM diethylstilbestrol (DES), complete medium in the presence and absence of 111M ...
متن کاملPREDICTION OF ESTROGEN RECEPTOR STATUS OF INVASIVE DUCTAL CARCINOMA OF BREAST BY HISTOLOGIC GRADE
In human breast cancer, estrogen receptor (ER) status of the tumor has prognostic and therapeutic significance. However, facilities to study ER are not widely available to us. We postulated that if there is a correlation between histologic grade and ER status of invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC), it may help predict the ER status of the tumor. Of 8 4 cases of breast carcinoma referred to the ...
